The Core: Creativity in Motion
The inspiration for The Core began with a simple discovery on the shoreline of Barafundle Bay, one of Wales’ most beautiful and unspoilt beaches. Walking along the sand, I found a delicate fern whose intricate structure immediately captured my attention. Its finely detailed form possessed a remarkable elegance, demonstrating how nature can create extraordinary complexity from the simplest of patterns.
What fascinated me most was its distinctly two-dimensional character. This led to a creative challenge: could a flat, organic shape be transformed into a compelling three-dimensional sculpture while retaining the beauty and rhythm of the original form?
The Core is the result of that exploration.
Constructed from a series of precisely engineered interlocking components, the sculpture extends beyond the traditional boundaries of static art. While it can be displayed in its signature configuration, The Core is designed to be taken apart and reassembled into entirely new forms. Each element connects with the others to create a structure that is both visually striking and endlessly adaptable.
Part sculpture, part creative exercise, it invites participation and experimentation. The experience is reminiscent of building with construction toys, yet elevated through sculptural design and artistic intent. The work encourages curiosity, problem-solving and imaginative thinking, allowing every owner to become part of the creative process.
No two interactions with The Core need be the same. One day it may exist in its original form; the next, it may become something entirely different. Every reconfiguration creates a new relationship between the individual components, generating fresh compositions and unexpected visual outcomes.
Measuring approximately 600mm in diameter, The Core is both a sculpture and a catalyst for creativity. Inspired by the elegance of nature and driven by the spirit of exploration, it celebrates the idea that art is not always fixed, but can evolve through play, discovery and imagination.
